Preparations for the 2012 Red Springs Street Festival are underway
Artists, community groups, craftspeople, food vendors and community organizations who wish to participate in the Red Springs Street Festival, Saturday April 28, 2012 should contact Margie Labadie at (910) 734-3351 or email RedSpringsArtsCouncil@gmail.com for an application or additional information.
This year's festival is scheduled for April 28 from 10 AM to 5 PM and will feature a variety of musicians, dancers and street entertainers, including activities for both children and adults.
The event is held annually on East 3rd Avenue between Main and Cross Streets in Red Springs to showcase arts, crafts and dance talent from Robeson County and the surrounding area. Set-up times for booths vary per individual, but it’s best to arrive early to find a good spot. See Festival organizers upon arrival.
Food vendors have the opportunity to do well—as the event draws thousands of people from outside Red Springs, as well as local citizens.
The Red Springs Street Festival is supported by a Grassroots Arts Grant from the North Carolina Arts Council, a state agency.

Author Visit: Michael Ray Smith, PhD
Join Michael Ray Smith, PhD, as he discusses A Free Press in Freehand, his astonishing story of North Carolinian John McLean Harrington, a maverick journalist, who before and during the Civil War handwrote up to a hundred copies of each issue of his own various newspapers. As cultural and military battle lines were drawn across the South, Harrington, while postmaster in Harnett County, "blogged" in longhand about everything from the plight of slaves to unrequited love, international relations, and technology. He became an outspoken dilettante journalist, a defender of press freedom, and one of the nation's most productive longhand journalists. Smith teaches at Campbell University, a few miles from the book's setting, and is an award-winning journalist, photographer, and author of many articles and five books, including FeatureWriting.Net.
